Friendship Manor was established over 40 years ago with the goal of providing affordable, safe, and sanitary housing for the elderly over 62 and the disabled. Friendship Manor is a HUD subsidized, non-profit, equal housing opportunity facility and one of the first in the country planned for older persons of all economic backgrounds.
The problem of housing for the increasing number of our elderly over the age of 62 years has in recent years become a major concern to society. Medicare, by prolonging their healthful years, has contributed to the growing pressure for more and better facilities to take care of the special needs of active older persons.
Sociological changes in family life have eliminated the need for keeping the "old family home" for future generations. Young families have acquired a new mobility. Seldom in this technological age can they remain for long in the ancestral home.
It is for the parent or parents, left alone when children are gone, that Friendship Manor was conceived. It provides a little less space and more convenience, a little less time for housekeeping and more time for leisure, a little less loneliness and more companionship, with privacy, security and pleasant surroundings thrown in. It provides a way of life for people - by people who care about other people. |
